Master Data Management Services (MDM)
Data management is an administrative process that includes acquiring, validating, storing, protecting, and processing required data to ensure the accessibility, reliability, and timeliness of the data for its users. Organizations and enterprises are making use of Big Data more than ever before to inform business decisions and gain deep insights into customer behavior, trends, and opportunities for creating extraordinary customer experiences.
Benefits of Master Data Management:
- Reduced Data Redundancy
- Improved Data Consistency
- Increased Data Quailty
- increased Growth and Scalability
- Improved Change Management Processes
- Improved Regulatory Compliance
- More Useful & Effective Data Analysis
- Provides Mechanisms for Consistent Use of Master Data Across the Organization
- Reduced Cost & Increased ROI
Copy Data Management (CDM)
A key area within Master Data Management is Copy Data Management (CDM). CDM is the process by which copies of production data are supplied for non-production use. A sound CDM strategy entails an approach that reduces storage consumption through virtualized duplications of the data with the goal of eliminating unnecessary storage overhead and expensive core-based licensing fees. The process and technology for providing fully secured, fully functional and fully representative smart-copies of production data scenarios to business users is complicated and time consuming. Organizations without a strong Copy Data Management strategy often resort to costly, less-secure, full-copies of sensitive production data for non-production use. The resources and time required to provide users with full duplicates of production lead to slower cycle times; forcing users to deal with stale/nonrepresentative data for their respective use-cases. Furthermore, once the data from the full copy is exhausted, users must then repeat this cycle and request yet another production refresh or spend countless hours digging for additional data scenarios.
With Meridian EDMS, business users and developers are empowered to shop for the data required to satisfy specific scenarios by utilizing what Data Management Services refers to as “User Stories”. User stories are leveraged to bolster productivity while restricting access to only the data required by specific use-cases; when and where they need it the most. This not only dramatically reduces the size of your non-production overhead (capital and O&M), but it also mitigates the dependency and bottle-neck of waiting on overextended technical resources.
The smart-copy approach is outlined below. The diagram depicts the basic elements comprising a fully functional, virtualize smart-copy of the production data at a fraction of the size of a traditional full copy.
The diagram below illustrates how fully representative smart-copies reduce the overall storage footprint, while offering full system functionality complete with data security, masking and obfuscation. The letter-blocks within the graphic represents various classifications of business entities in order to depict data diversity, which ensures that each data dimension is represented.
Our Data Management Services Team will work with you to determine how many full copies of non-production exists today and how many smart-copies are required to support your organization going forward. Our team will also utilize the discovery process to identify all areas of sensitive data in order to identify and define data obfuscation rules.
Our Storage footprint and cost was continually increasing, Quality of test data was insufficient in spite of higher volumes of accounts to provide more scenarios, refreshing test environments was time consuming due to higher account volumes, no method in place to provide purge functionality that would maintain data integrity. After implementing the Meridian EDMS platform the Immediate result was the elimination of 17TB of premium storage that supported test environments and one high end Unix server that hosted the databases, reductions in storage growth provided O&M savings of $2 M costs over 5 Years, avoided capital costs of $4.4 M from storage purchases no longer required, smaller test databases through EDMS functionality that provides representative samples of accounts specific to our installation, faster test database refreshes through EDMS representative samples and Improved test quality through an EDMS data extraction process which allows users to extract accounts that specifically address their test scenarios.
